IMPORTANT COMMUNITY NOTICE : ”March to March” Movement

Message to the Congolese Community in South Africa

In light of the growing tensions linked to the “March to March” movement and increasing anti-foreigner sentiment in certain parts of South Africa, the Congolese Civil Society of South Africa is calling on all compatriots to exercise heightened vigilance and precautionary measures from now through to December 2026.

As discussions around the Department of Home Affairs’ White Paper continue, and with local elections approaching in November 2026, the current environment requires awareness, unity, and proactive safety measures across our communities.

We strongly urge all community members to:

-Limit non-essential public engagements
-Remain alert to risks of xenophobic violence
-Take extra precautions regarding the safety of children, especially when traveling to and from school
-Prioritize collective vigilance and community awareness

Recommended Safety Measures include:

-Avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk areas
-Strengthen community communication and mutual support
-Ensure the protection of children and vulnerable individuals
-Stand together in unity and solidarity, especially during this sensitive period

In case of danger or urgent situations, please reach out to:
-South African Police Services (SAPS)
-Embassy of the DRC in Pretoria
-Trusted community leaders or recognized journalists
-CCSSA Offices: 073 576 7773 / 021 685 0024

The Congolese Civil Society of South Africa remains fully committed to monitoring the situation closely and defending the rights, dignity, and safety of all Congolese nationals living in South Africa.
Let us remain united, cautious, and responsible.
